The Madonna Eye Lift – Aftercare Instructions

Thank you for choosing The Doctors Laser Clinic for your Madonna Eye Lift treatment. This procedure utilises advanced CO2 laser technology to rejuvenate the skin around your eyes, stimulating collagen and elastin production for a more youthful appearance. To ensure optimal healing and results, please carefully follow these aftercare instructions. Please bear in mind that every patient’s skin responds differently, so please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. This advice specifically applies to patients who have undergone a Madonna Eye Lift (CO2 laser) treatment.

1. Immediate Post-Treatment Care (Day 1)

  • Keep the Area Moist: Immediately after the treatment, the treated area will be covered with ointment. It is crucially important to keep the area moist. Reapply the ointment frequently to prevent dryness or crust formation. You may notice some clear or yellow oozing, which is normal.

  • Rest and Relaxation: Allow yourself ample rest after the procedure.

2. First 24 Hours

  • Continued Ointment Application: Continue to reapply the recommended ointment regularly throughout the first 24 hours to keep the treated skin hydrated and prevent crusting.

3. Days 2-14: Promoting Healing

  • Avoid Picking: Do not pick at any scabs or crusted areas. Allow them to fall off naturally.

  • Manage Itching: Itching is a common part of the healing process, especially within the first week.

    • If itching becomes significant, apply a thin layer of hydrocortisone cream to the itchy areas before reapplying the ointment.

    • Consider taking an antihistamine tablet to help reduce itching.

    • If the itching is more intense at night, wear light cotton gloves to prevent scratching the healing skin.

4. Weeks 2-2 Months: Continued Healing

  • Milia Formation: You might notice small whiteheads (milia) appear between 2 weeks and 2 months after the treatment. These occur when new skin overgrows the underlying glands. You can gently exfoliate to remove them once the skin has fully healed. Contact us if you are unsure.

5. General Skincare & Precautions

  • Gentle Cleansing: Once the skin is fully resurfaced (typically after 7-14 days), you can resume gentle cleansing with a mild, fragrance-free cleanser. Avoid harsh or abrasive products.

  • Moisturise: Use a gentle, hypoallergenic moisturiser to keep the skin hydrated. CeraVe is often recommended.

  • Avoid Rubbing/Massaging: Do not rub or massage the treated area during the healing period.

6. Sun Protection is Essential

  • Avoid Direct Sun Exposure: Avoid direct sun exposure completely for at least 48 hours after treatment.

  • Sunscreen is Mandatory: For six months following the treatment, use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 50 or higher every day, even on cloudy days. Sun exposure can trigger hyperpigmentation. Reapply frequently, especially when outdoors.

  • Hats and Shade: When outdoors, wear a wide-brimmed hat and seek shade whenever possible.

7. Lifestyle Adjustments

  • Avoid Smoking: Refrain from smoking for at least two weeks prior to and three weeks after treatment as it impairs blood circulation and hinders healing.

  • Hydration: Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, which aids the healing process.

  • Avoid Strenuous Activity: Avoid vigorous exercise, heavy lifting, or strenuous physical activity for at least two weeks after treatment as it may increase swelling.

8. Contact Lenses & Eye Care

  • Avoid Contact Lenses: Refrain from wearing contact lenses for 10-14 days following the treatment to avoid irritation and disruption of the healing skin around your eyes.

9. Cosmetics & Makeup

  • Avoid Makeup: Do not apply makeup until the skin is fully resurfaced and your practitioner has given you clearance.

  • Gentle Makeup Removal: When you resume wearing makeup, use a gentle, non-irritating makeup remover.

10. What to Expect

  • Redness: Expect your skin to be bright red immediately following the procedure. This redness will gradually fade over time, but some residual pinkness may persist for up to 6-12 weeks.

  • Tightening: Clients typically see an immediate tightening of the eyelids post-treatment, with continued improvements over the next 3-6 months as collagen production increases.

11. When to Contact Us

  • If you experience any unusual or prolonged side effects, such as blistering, excessive swelling, or signs of infection, please contact the clinic immediately.
