What are dermal fillers?
Administered via cannula, dermal fillers are used to replace lost volume in the deep tissues, fill-out creases and wrinkles within the skin to produce a younger, smoother appearance. They contain hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a natural substance found in the body. HA has many uses, including to add volume and support to the skin, and moisturisation. Facial fillers can be used in many areas, including tear troughs, frown lines, and smoker’s lines. As well as being used for facial wrinkles, they can be ideal for altering facial contours, vertical lines, cheeks and lip augmentation. For lips see our lip fillers page. The treatment goals of a dermal filler are to enhance your natural features and to smooth out wrinkles whilst presenting a more youthful appearance.
Benefits of Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers, primarily composed of hyaluronic acid, offer many benefits for those seeking aesthetic enhancements. Firstly, they effectively restore lost facial volume, countering the effects of ageing. Secondly, fillers smooth out lines and wrinkles, presenting a more youthful appearance. They are versatile and suitable for facial areas, including cheeks, lips, and jawline. The non-permanent nature of these treatments allows for flexibility and adaptability in aesthetic goals.

Areas that dermal fillers can treat
Whilst most commonly used in the lip and cheek areas, hyaluronic acid dermal fillers can produce a range of youthful benefits for multiple facial points, including:
- Plumping of the cheeks with consequent lifting in the lower face
- Reducing the depth of nasolabial folds around the mouth
- Providing volume in the Temples
- Re-defining the Jawline and Chin
- Plumping up thinning lips
- Reducing the appearance of lines
- Correcting the shape of the nose
- Generally dialling back the appearance of the ageing process
- Provide balance to the face
Dermal fillers are not permanent
Typically, dermal fillers aren’t permanent. To maintain your desired look on your skin on a long-term basis, top-up treatments or ‘Tweakments’ will be needed once the results begin to fade. The most common type of dermal fillers are Hyaluronic Acid Fillers; results generally last up to an impressive 18 months and stimulate new collagen production.

The Dermal Filler Process
Initial Consultation
The first step begins with a comprehensive consultation, discussing your aesthetic aspirations and assessing your facial structure. During this appointment, we will create a personalised treatment plan that aligns with your goals.
The Treatment Session
Our skilled practitioners use advanced techniques to administer the fillers precisely during the treatment. The process is designed to be comfortable, ensuring a pleasant experience throughout.
Aftercare and Follow-up
Post-treatment, we provide detailed aftercare instructions to maximise results. A follow-up appointment may be scheduled to monitor progress and make any necessary adjustments, ensuring your continued satisfaction with the outcome.
Cost of Dermal Filler
The cost of dermal filler treatments starts from £325 at our clinic and is determined by the specific areas treated and the volume of filler used. We provide transparent pricing during the consultation, ensuring you are fully informed about the investment in your aesthetic journey.

The type of product used will vary significantly depending on the areas you wish to be treated. What works best for facial lines may be different to products injected in the nose or chin, or your nasolabial folds. Frequently Asked Questions
During your consultation with us, we’ll answer any questions or concerns you may have.
Can you visit me to perform a dermal filler treatment?
We get asked this a fair bit. This is not something we do for various safety reasons. We only perform dermal filler treatments at our CQC regulated clinic in Poringland, Norwich.
Are the dermal fillers you use derived from animal products?
We get asked this more and more. The answer is no. The dermal fillers we use are not made from any animal products or by-products. They are derived from a biotechnology process of ‘bacterial fermentation’.
What can I expect from a Dermal Fillers appointment?
Different products work best in different areas. So, before treatment actually begins, you’re able to discuss your exact requirements with an experienced practitioner to ensure the best possible outcome is achieved. Your medical history is discussed, you will be offered topical local anaesthetic (numbing cream) You can expect lines and furrows to be reduced and areas of your lips, cheeks and face to look less hollow and plumper with corrected volume loss after just one treatment.
How long do dermal fillers last?
A lip fillers treatment usually lasts 6 to 12 months and other areas of the mouth, chin and face, 9 to 18 months. The length of time that they will last for will vary from patient to patient.
Which dermal filler is right for me?
Due to our extensive experience in aesthetic treatments, we can offer a range of different types of fillers to suit your desired results. The various types of injections we suggest will generally depend on the area you want to be treated and the skin issues you are looking to correct. This will all be explained during your consultation.
Are hyaluronic acid filling treatments safe to be injected?
Dermal fillers are regarded as a safe treatment when the procedure is carried out by experienced doctors and nurses. The Doctors Laser Clinic has many accreditations and has ‘excellence’ status by SaveFace, a ‘Good’ rating by the CQC, are a member of CRS, BCAM, the ACE group amongst others.
Can I drink alcohol after having dermal fillers?
Drinking alcohol will not affect the results; it could possibly increase the amount of swelling in the dermal filler injection area. We would advise patients that you should avoid alcohol for a couple of days after having your dermal filler treatments done.
What is the aftercare advice?
You are advised to avoid direct sunlight after the procedure. Avoid excess heat and do not perform any strenuous exercises for a week post treatment. Certain medications may prolong any possible bruising and swelling. You will be provided with comprehensive aftercare advice post procedure.
