Marionette Lines treatment In Norwich
As we age, the elastin and collagen around the cheeks and chin reduce, causing the skin to sag. The lines caused by this are known as Marionette lines, and can often produce a sad, miserable-looking expression. They can sometimes be managed with anti-wrinkle injections but HA fillers are often a good way to improve them
What are marionette lines?
Marionette lines, named after the string puppets with moveable jaws they resemble, are facial wrinkles that manifest with age. They run vertically from the corners of the mouth down to the chin, often leading to a sagging appearance in the lower face. This skin, especially around the mouth, is more susceptible to wrinkling due to its thinner composition compared to other facial areas. Typically emerging by one’s 40s, early signs can appear even in the late 20s or 30s. Their prominence is a result of the natural decline in collagen, the protein responsible for skin’s plumpness, combined with factors like gravity, sun exposure, and genetics
Dermal filler for marionette lines
The most common fillers are made from Hyaluronic Acid (HA)– which isn’t really an acid. It’s more like a sugary jelly that occurs naturally in all of our bodies. Not all HA fillers are equal. There are hundreds on the market ranging from £20 a tube to £200!! Most are not medically licensed. Quality is in direct proportion to cost!
At The Doctors Laser and Aesthetic Clinic, we have used for over eight years the German Belotero range that we regard as the best on the market.
With age, stress, weight loss, illness, menopause and late pregnancy, we lose supporting volume from our facial fat pads, causing sagging and lining. It is common that we solve a deep smile line, marionette or Jowell problem by restoring the cheek, which lifts everything back up.
It is important to assess, in person, exactly what has caused the change in your face so that an appropriate treatment can be done that will restore and respect your own facial ratios. Filler placed wrongly can make you look stupid. Done correctly, no one should know that you have cheated the ravages of time! Less is more!
The Belotero HA Fillers are wonderfully tolerated, last well and are completely reversible. Our emphasis is on comfort and safety, so we use advanced cannula techniques that are far safer than needle injections.
At your free-of-charge initial consultation, we shall discuss your concerns, consider options, and costs, take photos and plan a treatment regime. Old photos are always useful to see what has changed.
Prevention of Marionette Lines
While the march of time is inevitable, there are steps you can take to delay the appearance of marionette lines. Protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays by using sunscreen and wearing protective clothing can help. A balanced diet rich in antioxidants and hydration can also maintain skin elasticity. Avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, which can dehydrate the skin and break down collagen. Regular facial exercises might help in toning the muscles around the mouth and chin, though the jury’s still out on that one.
Other Treatable Areas
Anti-wrinkle treatment are able to treat a number of areas on the face and body including Forehead Lines, Glabella/Frown Lines, Crow’s Feet, Bunny Lines, Peri-oral Lines (Smoker’s Lines), Marionette Lines, Mentalis Dysfunction (Chin “Dents”), Vertical Platysma Bands and Brow Lift.

Frequently Asked Questions
During your consultation with us, we’ll answer any questions or concerns you may have.
During treatment, the solution will be injected directly into the muscles of the treatment area using a fine needle. As the needle is so small, it’s unlikely you’ll experience any pain; the most you’re likely to feel is a little sharp discomfort as the substance is injected.
A series of these injections will be administered, with a typical treatment session expected to last no longer then 15-20 minutes.
If you don’t instantly notice results after your first session, this is completely normal. Visible results are typically seen after around 7-9 days of treatment, but it could take up to 21 days for the full effect to develop.
The anti-ageing results can last anywhere between 2-5 months, meaning the results of this treatment aren’t permanent. To maintain a youthful, smooth complexion, you’ll likely need a series of top-up procedures between 2-4 times per year.
