Lip Filler Aftercare Instructions
Following these aftercare instructions will help you achieve the best possible results from your lip filler treatment and minimise the risk of any unwanted side effects.
After Your Lip Filler Treatment (First 24 Hours):
Apply Ice: Gently apply a cold compress (ice pack wrapped in a clean cloth) to your lips for 10-15 minutes at a time, several times throughout the day. This helps reduce swelling and bruising.
Keep Clean: Gently keep your lips clean, but avoid harsh scrubbing or exfoliating.
Avoid Makeup: Do not apply lipstick or any other makeup products on or near your lips.
Elevate Your Head: Sleep with your head elevated using extra pillows to minimise swelling. Sleep on your back to avoid pressure.
Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
For the Next 48 Hours:
No Strenuous Exercise: Avoid vigorous exercise or activities that increase your heart rate and blood pressure. Light walking is okay.
Avoid High Temperatures: Stay away from saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, and very hot showers or baths.
Avoid Alcohol: Do not consume any alcoholic beverages.
No Smoking: Refrain from smoking.
Limit Pressure: Avoid putting pressure on your lips, including kissing or massaging them.
General Recommendations:
Medications: Discuss with your provider which pain relievers are safe to take. Avoid blood-thinning medications like ibuprofen or aspirin unless specifically prescribed by your doctor. Paracetemol generally safe for pain.
Diet: Avoid salty foods, which can increase swelling. Focus on hydrating fruits and vegetables.
Cosmetic Procedures: Avoid other facial treatments such as facials, chemical peels, waxing, microdermabrasion, skin needling, IPL, or laser treatments for at least two weeks.
Consider Arnica: Using arnica to help reduce the risk of bruising and help bruising settle.
Avoid flying: It is usually recommended that you avoid flying for at least a week after your treatment.
Recovery Time: Allow ample time to recover before any special events. We recommend getting your lip fillers at least 3 weeks before any major events to allow the swelling to fully subside. If it is your first time we recommend 4-6 weeks.
