Décolletage
Décolletage is one of those words that not everyone is familiar with. We perform Décolletage treatments at Doctors Laser Clinic, so we thought we would clarify what a Décolletage treatment entails.
What does Décolletage mean?
The actual meaning of the word is a little unclear. The Cambridge dictionary has it as ‘(the shoulders and chest of a woman’s body shown by) the low top edge of a dress.’ So, an area, maybe. The Oxford dictionary states it is ‘the top edge of a dress, etc. that is designed to be very low in order to show the shoulders and the top part of the breasts’. So, the dress (sort of). In short, ‘Décolletage treatments’ refer to aesthetic procedures that treat an area that is revealed by a low cut dress. This region, often due to being exposed to the elements can show (like anywhere else), signs of ageing. It deserves special attention.

Why people have Décolletage treatments
The décolletage is one of the first areas to show signs of ageing, often because it’s neglected in a patient’s daily skincare routine. The skin here is thinner and more delicate than on the face, making it particularly vulnerable to sun damage, and the effects of gravity, which give way to fine lines, wrinkles, sun spots, and crepey skin. Because it’s so often exposed and overlooked in a skincare routine, the décolletage can quickly reveal a discrepancy between facial age and the condition of the chest area. The motivation for patients have treatment is simple. They that their décolletage is betraying their age. By ‘betraying their age’ we mean fine lines and wrinkles, sun damaged skin, uneven skin texture, or just generally aged skin. This delicate area, being thinner and often neglected in skincare routines, is often overlooked.
Benefits of a Décolletage treatment
- Increased skin elasticity and firmness.
- Reduction in the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
