The Science Behind Endymed

As we now have the remarkable Endymed device at The Doctors Laser Clinic, we thought it would be prudent to explain the science behind the technology used in the device.

What is Endymed?

Endymed is a state-of-the-art aesthetic treatment device that harnesses the power of radiofrequency (RF) energy. Designed to rejuvenate and tighten the skin, it’s a non-invasive solution for those seeking to combat signs of ageing, improve skin texture, and achieve that longed-for, more youthful appearance.

How Does Endymed Work?

Endymed works by delivering controlled RF energy deep into the skin layers. This energy heats the skin’s collagen fibres, causing them to contract and tighten. Simultaneously, the heat stimulates the production of new collagen, a protein responsible for skin elasticity and firmness. The result? Smoother, tighter, and more radiant skin.

What Can Endymed Do?

  • Skin Tightening: By boosting collagen production, Endymed can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Contouring: It can redefine the contours of your face and body, giving a more sculpted look.
  • Texture Improvement: Endymed can improve skin texture, reducing the appearance of scars, large pores, and uneven skin tones.

The Advanced Science of RF Microneedling:

RF microneedling is a sophisticated combination of two potent dermatological techniques: microneedling and radiofrequency (RF) energy. Here’s a more in-depth exploration of the underlying mechanisms happening when RF Energy is applied to the skin.

Bipolar Radiofrequency Energy:

At its heart, RF microneedling utilises bipolar RF energy. Unlike monopolar RF, which requires a grounding pad and can penetrate deeper into tissues, bipolar RF energy travels only between the needles of the device, ensuring precise and controlled delivery. This targeted approach maximises the denaturing effect on dermal collagen, leading to a more pronounced stimulation of neocollagenesis—the synthesis of new collagen fibres.

Dermal Coagulation and Haemostasis:

RF microneedling induces a unique physiological response known as dermal coagulation. As the micro-needles penetrate the skin and deliver RF energy, they cause localised coagulation of blood proteins. This process, termed haemostasis, results in blood thickening in the treated area. The subsequent cascade of cellular events promotes wound healing and tissue remodelling, enhancing the skin’s structural integrity.

Protection of the Epidermis:

A notable feature of microneedling RF technology is its epidermal preservation. The design ensures that the epidermis remains largely undamaged, focusing the RF energy on the deeper dermal layers. This characteristic makes the procedure especially safe for darker skin types, mitigating the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Collagen Remodeling and Neoelastogenesis:

The controlled thermal injury caused by the RF energy disrupts the triple-helical structure of collagen molecules in the dermis. This denaturation process triggers the body’s natural wound-healing cascade. Fibroblasts, the primary cells responsible for collagen production, are activated and produce new collagen and elastin—a protein that imparts elasticity to the skin. Collagen remodelling and neoelastogenesis combined effect results in tighter, rejuvenated skin.

Applications Beyond Skin Tightening:

While skin tightening and rejuvenation are primary applications, RF microneedling has demonstrated efficacy in other dermatological concerns. Studies have shown its potential in wrinkle reduction, acne scarring mitigation, and even in the treatment of atrophic scars and stretch marks.

Why we chose Endymed:

We had an idea that Endymed would become the next best thing. We formed this idea by speaking to people in the industry at conferences and speaking to friends within the industry. After a period of investigating and reviewing, followed by a lot of thought, we chose to have Endymed’s RF device in the clinic. We were right, it is becoming the next big thing in the world of aesthetic treatments.
