What is Microneedling?

Micro-needling is a treatment whereby a device with small needles is pushed or rolled over your face and neck area to create controlled punctures. This tiny punctures force your skin into repair mode, generating a resurfacing to the skin. The micro-needle length can vary from 0.5 to 3.0 mm, which is incredibly tiny compared to a traditional needle and these devices are even gentle enough to be used around the delicate eye area.

When your skin starts repairing itself it turbocharges your body’s natural ability to produce collagen and elastin, which provides that firm plumpness and the skins tissue is remodelled when the vascular matrix matures and the skin is tightened.  The treatment therefore offers multiple benefits to your skin, it helps improve skin texture, reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks and creates a more youthful skin tone.

At Doctors Laser Clinic we use the award-winning patented micro-needling technology Dermapen. This is a sterile single-use needle ‘pen’ and this is the market leader in patient safety, comfort and treatment results.

Every Dermapen needle is made up of 12 smaller needles which your clinician inserts into the skin creating small, microskin channels while stimulating the skins’ natural ability to heal itself. The treatment would typically last 15-20 mins for an area the size of a face.

It can be used anywhere on the body and can really target those problem areas. Due to the tiny size of the needles, the discomfort level is very bearable but we can apply a numbing cream if requested to provide further comfort. We will give you a detailed individual consultation but the best results are to be found in course of 3-5 treatment sessions.

New, Improved Skin

Microneedling increases the production of collagen and other healing factors by causing trauma to the skin. Collagen is an essential protein that helps keep the skin looking youthful, with a firm, smooth, and stretchy texture. Ageing causes the decline of collagen in the skin, contributing to wrinkles and other signs of ageing.

Frequently Asked Questions

During your consultation with us, we’ll answer any questions or concerns you may have.

This treatment is really looking at making a sustained longer term improvement to the skin condition. This is because collagen and elastin takes time to generate. The benefits are often seen within the first couple of weeks however the treatment starts a process of skin rejuvenation which continues maturing for several months. So we anticipate the most noticeable results from about three months onwards. You can expect that your skin will appear plumper and rejuvenated, wrinkles can dramatically reduce and age spots and scarring blur to reveal the best your skin can be.

Patients may experience some redness itching or minor swelling, but there is no downtime with Micro-needling and any mild side effects would be only last few days. It is really safe practice because no chemicals are involved and there is no heating of the skin. Patients are advised to wear a high SPF for the two weeks following treatment to combat a potential increase in sun sensitivity. Micro-needling can be used on all skin colours and skin types, however it should be avoided if one has an active infection on the skin, or those with hypersensitive skin.
