2023 Is the 21st anniversary of Botox being used for cosmetics purposes. Here is some Botox Myth Busting!
- Botox will freeze your face
Not true. When administered by a trained professional, there should be no loss of facial expression. Even though certain nerves are “paralyzed” when Botox is injected, you will still smile, frown, and have expressions. If you can’t move your face, it hasn’t been done correctly. It’s all about where you put it and how much is used. The key is a subtle, understated approach, keeping expression in the face. But yes, you can have too much Botox. Reputable clinics will ensure this does not happen.
- Botox and Fillers are the same thing
Not true. Fillers and Botox are different things. Fillers work to “fill” in lines and restore volume loss. Botox, on the other hand, works to relax the muscles that cause those lines. When considering a cosmetic treatment for your face, it is important that you discuss the areas which you want to improve, in consultation with your practitioner, you can consider fillers to restore volume in separate areas of your face, usually on the lower part. Botox is most commonly administered on the upper face.
- Botox treats all lines and wrinkles
Unfortunately not. Frown lines on the forehead and crow’s feet at the corners of the eyes are two areas that Botox can really help to improve, but deep, vertical lines around the mouth and cheeks won’t see much benefit. The reason is that they are vertical lines, which are caused by gravity. To banish those, you need fillers to plump.
- Botox is for Older clients
There is a common myth is that Botox is for older clients. But this is far from true – Botox is regularly used as a preventative measure in women in their twenties and thirties, helping with premature ageing and wrinkle development. Clinics often report that the average age of clientele in the UK is around 35.
