Fillers for wrinkles, sagging faces and thinning lips
In our youth we have lovely soft plump facial skin because all of the compartments are full of soft juicy fat, well supported by nice elastic ligaments and plenty of collagen matrix. As we age the fat compartments empty and start heading southwards causing bags under the eyes and loss of our peachy cheeks. Our laugh lines lengthen and deepen making for prominent naso-labial folds. Bone loss occurs, the temples hollow and marionette lines appear from the corner of the mouth. The jaw line sags. We start looking old!!
The good news is that there are some excellent products around that can be used to restore some of this loss. In expert hands the results are very satisfying and subtle. The big problem with fillers is that they can be very badly done – we all know of someone with a “trout pout”! And there are some people who shouldn’t have them at all but are vulnerable to the sharp operators in an unregulated marketplace.
How long will it last?
Depending on which of the Belotero range of products is used between 6 and 18 months. Radiesse has been around for 10 years and has been injected 5 million times. It is a caHa filler that is longer lasting with a duration up to 2 years.
I am Interested but I am also worried
All reputable doctors and nurses sign up to a code of conduct that insists on a cooling off period after a first consultation. If you decide not to go ahead we will not hassle you. We are governed by the GMC, NMC and are signed up to the articles of best practice promoted by The Save Face campaign http://www.saveface.co.uk/
An average initial consultation will last up to an hour (sometimes more if there is a complex medical or psychological history to consider). The doctor or nurse will listen to your concerns, answer your questions and advise on what may be a realistic outcome. Information on potential problems and side effects will be given. Photographs are taken for the record and to help with assessment. It may be that fillers are not appropriate or a better outcome may be achieved with botulinum injections and/or laser treatments.
What Can Go Wrong?
Most of the time nothing at all. The hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers have very low allergenicity so serious problems are very rare. There can be some redness, pain and swelling at the site of the injection that clears within days. Bruising can occur although it is much less common with the cannula method that we primarily use. There are some very rare and serious complications that can occur if filler is accidentally injected into an artery but again these catastrophes are best avoided by using a practitioner with appropriate qualifications.
How long does a treatment take?
On average about 45 minutes.
Does it Hurt?
It isn’t painless! Although most people say it’s no problem at all. Like going to the dentist but there’s usually a great result at the end.
How soon will I see results?
Immediately. And there is often ongoing improvement for some time after.
All our initial consultations are free! Come and visit us without any commitment!
