As we grow older, the collagen and elastin around the chin and cheek reduce. The skin begins to sag and the fatty deposits in the face decrease. Marionette lines often give people a sad or grim expression.
The best treatment usually involves a good filler such as Belotero or Radiesse.
An off licence use can be Botox which can reduce some of the downward pull on the corners of the mouth. When injected into the Depressor Anguli Oris muscle, it stops pulling the corners of the mouth down thus weakening marionette lines. This also means that it temporarily prevents them from getting even deeper.
Applying Botox in the chin area can also help diminish the look of sagging skin on the neck. Talk to your doctor to see if this applies to you as these are off licence indications.
What can I expect
For some people, a small amount of bruising and redness can occur. This should go away in about a day or two. The results of the treatment should start becoming visible within a couple of days. Your skin will feel tighter and smoother.
The botox works by relaxing the muscle that causes your skin to fold. The result should be a subtle, fresh look to the mouth area. Coworkers and friends will tend to think you just look happier, like you’ve just been on holidays!
Botox can last from 2 to 6 months depending on how your body reacts to it.
How could this help tighten the skin under my neck
Some people develop very visible ‘muscle bands’ on their neck with age. The platysma is a thin sheet-like muscle under the neck skin that separates into unsightly bands. For some people, Botox can help effectively relax them, giving your neck a soft, youthful silhouette. When injected, the bands relax, the jowls reduce and the lower face lifts thus also helping marionette lines.
